Alan Rick scampered home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth to cap off a three run rally to win it for the Smokies. Tyler Colvin was the hitting star though and he was instrumental in the come from behind win. He went four for five with a homerun, two runs and two RBIs.
Rocky Roquet picked up the win and he improved to 4-0. He gave up one run on two hits in one inning of work.
Mitch Atkins improved to 5-3 on the season with a nice start in Daytona’s 11-1 win over Clearwater. He gave up just one run on six hits and a walk with four strikouts in six innings of work.
Tyler Colvin went two for five with a homerun, two RBIs and two runs. It was his fifth homerun for Daytona. Alan Rick went one for four with a double, three RBIs and a run.
Daytona beat Dunedin 9-5 and Matt Matulia led the way for the Cubs at the plate. He went three for four with an RBI and two runs. Alan Rick hit a solo homerun and Brian Dopirak went three for three with a double and an RBI.
Jon Mueller improved to 5-1 with some solid relief. He gave up one run on two hits with a strikeout in 2 1/3 innings.
Jeff Samardzija had a tough start and he dropped to 0-2 on the season in the Cub’s 5-1 loss to Vero Beach. He gave up four runs on nine hits with one strikeout in 6 1/3 innings.
Alan Rick was the hitting star in the loss. He was the only Cub with two hits and he scored the only run in the loss.
