Iowa Edges Isotopes For Third Straight Win

Sean Gallagher had a really nice start in Iowa’s 4-3 win over the Isotopes.  He gave up one hit and two walks with four strikeouts in five shutout of innings.

Buck Coats was the hitting star.  He went two for four with a two run homer.

Micah Hoffpauir’s Grand Slam Pushes Iowa to Win Over Memphis

Iowa and Memphis combined for 25 runs on 31 hits in a game where pitching went out the window.  Micah Hoffpauir’s grand slam in the bottom of the eighth gave the Cubs the lead and Buck Coats had a huge game in which he went five for five with two homeruns, five RBIs and three runs.

Clay Rapada picked up the win with 1 1/3 shutout innings.  Neal Cotts was roughed up in his start and he gave up eight runs and he didn’t even last through the fifth inning.

Scott Moore Homers Twice, Drives In Five In Iowa Win

Scott Moore had a big day at the plate in the Cubs 9-7 win over Oklahoma.  He went two for four with two homeruns and five RBIs.  Buck Coats also had a nice game and he went two for four with two doubles and three runs.

Ryan O’Malley picked up the win despite a rough start.  He gave up five runs on nine hits and one walk with three strikeouts in five innings of work and the win improved his record to 2-3 on the season.

Ryan O’Malley Hit Hard In Iowa Loss

Ryan O’Malley was shelled today in the Cubs 11-7 loss to Memphis.  He gave up ten runs on eleven hits and two walks in just 2 1/3 innings.

Buck Coats was the hitting star in the loss. He went three for four with a solo homerun and two runs scored.  Mike Fontenot also went yard and he finished with two hits.

Iowa Held to Two Hits in Loss to Nashville

Iowa never got their bats going and all they picked up were two singles.  Mike Fontenot drove in the only run and Buck Coats was the only Cub to reach base twice with two walks.

Les Walrond took the loss with a tough outing.  He gave up four runs on nine hits and a walk with three strikeouts in six innings.

Iowa Held to Five Hits in Loss to Nashville

Iowa’s hitters were held in check in a 6-1 loss to Nashville.  Buck Coates drove in the lone run of the game and Scott Moore and Eric Patterson each had two hits.

Angel Guzman took the loss in a tough outing.  He gave up five runs on six hits and two walks in just three innings.  The loss dropped him to 0-1 on the season.

Felix Pie Homers in Ten Inning Iowa Win

The Iowa Cubs gave up three runs in the bottom of the ninth but came back and scored two in the top of the tenth to win it.  Felix Pie had another big game at the plate.  He went two for five with a double, a homerun and three runs.  Micah Hoffpair also had a really good game.  He went three for four with a homerun, four RBIs and two runs.  Buck Coats also went yard in the 9-7 win.

Fedrico Baez picked up the win despite allowing the tying run to score in the ninth (it was an inherited runner).  Hector Almonte had a nice relief appearance.  He threw two perfect innings and he struck out three.

J.R. Mathes Hit Hard in Iowa Loss

The Iowa Cubs were blown out in their season debut yesterday.  J.R. Mathes was really hit hard by Round Rock and he was tagged for five runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts in four innings of work.  Fedrico Baez had a nice relief appearance though.  He held Round Rock to a single hit with two strikeouts in two innings.

The offense managed just two runs and Felix Pie led the way. He singled twice while Buck Coats singled, drew two walks and scored a run.  He even gunned down a base runner at third base to help out on defense.
