The Smokies lost game one of their championship series to Huntsville 8-7. Mitch Atkins gave up five runs in 3 2/3 innings but he didn’t even take the loss because of all the offense. That loss went to Jesse Estrada, who gave up two unearned runs in just 2/3 of an inning.
Casey McGehee went two for five with a three run homer to give the Smokies a boost. Tyler Colvin doubled twice, drove in a run and scored once.
The Smokies took a 1-0 lead in their series with Huntsville and they got off to a quick start with four runs in the first inning. Casey McGehee had a nice game and he went two for three with a walk, two RBIs and a run. Issmael Salas doubled, drove in two runs and scored.
Mark Holliman picked up the win with a nice start. He gave up two runs on five hits and a walk with six strikeouts in seven innings of work.
The Smokies picked up two quick wins in one day as the Smokies beat Huntsville in both of their doubleheader games and it was Mark Holliman that made the headlines. He threw a seven inning no hitter in which he gave up just one walk with three strikeouts. Mark Holliman even helped out his own cause by providing the bulk of the offense with a two run homer.
Game two saw a solid pitching performance by the bullpen. After starter Matthew Avery gave up two runs in three innings, the pen held Huntsville scoreless the rest of the way. Adalberto Mendez threw two of those scoreless innings and he picked up the win. Issmael Salas went two for three with two RBIs and Casey McGehee went two for three with two runs.
The Smokies got some great pitching in a 5-1 win over the Jaxx and Donald Veal picked up the win with a nice start. He improved to 3-4 on the season and he gave up three hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in six shutout innings.
Casey McGehee provided the bulk of the offense for the Smokies with some timely hitting. He went two for four with two doubles and he drove in four of the Smokies’ five runs.
The Smokies beat the Suns 9-7 and five of those nine runs were driven in by Casey McGehee. He went two for four with a three run homer. Jacob Fox scored three runs despite not getting a hit. He did walk twice in the win.
Donald Veal was hammered in his start and he gave up seven runs in four innings. Jim Henderson improved to 3-1 with the win and he threw an inning of shutout relief.
Mark Holliman had another great start and he improved to 6-1. He gave up just two hits and a walk with five strikeouts in the win.
Holliman also helped out his own cause at the plate. He hit a two run homer in the second inning. Casey McGehee went two for three and he scored twice.
The Smokies made three errors in their 4-3 loss to Mississippi and it resulted in two unearned runs. While Kevin Hart had a tough start, he held Mississippi in check. Adalberto Mendez took the loss when he gave up the losing run in the fifth inning.
Casey McGehee doubled and he drive in two runs. Jacob Fox went two for four with a run.
Ryan O’Malley had a very solid start and he gave up just one unearned runs on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts. The problem is, the relievers gave up three late runs to lose it in ten innings. Clay Rapada took the loss after he gave up a run in the tenth.
Casey McGehee was solid at the plate in the 4-3 loss. He went two for four with a double, a homerun, an RBI and a run.
