Iowa and Memphis combined for 25 runs on 31 hits in a game where pitching went out the window. Micah Hoffpauir’s grand slam in the bottom of the eighth gave the Cubs the lead and Buck Coats had a huge game in which he went five for five with two homeruns, five RBIs and three runs.
Clay Rapada picked up the win with 1 1/3 shutout innings. Neal Cotts was roughed up in his start and he gave up eight runs and he didn’t even last through the fifth inning.
Anthony Richie hit a big two run homer in the top of the ninth to break a 2-2 tie in Iowa’s 4-2 win over Tacoma. He finished the game with just that one hit, but man was it a big one. Geovany Soto also had a nice game and he went one for two with two RBIs and a run.
Clay Rapada picked up the win. He threw 1 2/3 perfect innings and he struck out one to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Iowa scored two runs in the ninth inning to send the game into extra frames and then Mike Kinkade hit a huge two run walk off homer in the tenth to win for the Cubs. Kinkade finished the game three for five and he scored three runs in the 6-4 win.
Les Walrond had a tough start but the late inning heroics bailed him out. He gave up eight hits and he walked seven in six innings. Clay Rapada picked up the win with two shutout innings of relief.
