Gregory Reinhard had a great start and after six shutout innings, he left the game with a 3-0 lead. Unfortunately, the pen gave up six runs and that lead turned into a 6-5 loss so that great start turned out to be wasted.
Chris Amador was the hitting star in the loss. He went three for five with a solo homerun and two runs scored.
Tim Layden gave up an eleventh inning run that cost Daytona in their 7-6 loss to Tampa. The loss drops him to 1-2 on the season although he had help because Jeff Samardzija wasn’t all that great in his start. He gave up five runs in just five innings and his ERA is still north of 5.00 this year and he has yet to pick up his first win.
Brian Dopirak was the hitting star in the loss. He went three for five with a double, a homerun, two RBIs and a run.
Gregory Reinhard dropped to 0-1 on the season with a pretty tough start in Daytona’s 7-2 loss to Brevard County. He gave up five runs on six hits and two walks in three innings.
Kyle Reynolds hit a solo homerun in the loss. Mark Reed went two for four with an RBI.
Joel Santo had a decent start go to waste and he fell to 4-4 on the season in Daytona’s 6-2 loss. He gave up three runs on seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts in seven innings.
Alberto Garcia was the only Cub with two hits. Kyle Reynolds went one for three with a walk and a run.
Daytona scored a grand total of two runs in a doubleheader against Palm Beach and as expected, they lost them both. The first game was actually close because Mitch Atkins threw a solid game. He gave up two runs on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts in seven innings. Yusuf Carter had the only extra base hit for the Cubs with a double in the 2-1 loss.
Game two was a 6-1 loss. Darin Downs was shelled for three runs in two innings and he dropped to 2-2 on the season. Brian Dopirak drew two walks and he scored the only run of the game for the Cubs.
Tyler Colvin homered twice and drove in four runs in Daytona’s 11-2 win over Palm Beach. Jake Muyco also had a great game and he went three for four with a homerun, two RBIs and two runs.
Jeff Samardzija had some control problems and while he held Palm Beach scoreless, he gave up five walks and five hits in 4 2/3 innings. Scott Koerber picked up the win with 2 1/3 shutout innings.
Mitch Atkins improved to 5-3 on the season with a nice start in Daytona’s 11-1 win over Clearwater. He gave up just one run on six hits and a walk with four strikouts in six innings of work.
Tyler Colvin went two for five with a homerun, two RBIs and two runs. It was his fifth homerun for Daytona. Alan Rick went one for four with a double, three RBIs and a run.
Daytona took care of Clearwater 7-5 and Tyler Colvin was one of the hitting stars. He went three for five with a double, two RBIs and a run. Chris Amador also had a nice day at the plate and he went three for five with a triple, an RBI and two runs.
Darin Downs picked up the win and he improved to 2-0 on the season. He gave up two unearned runs on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings.
Scott Koerber was hit hard and he dropped to 2-4 on the season in the Daytona’s 9-5 loss to Dunedin. He gave up six runs on eleven hits and four walks with four strikeouts in six innings of work.
Jesus Valdez was the hitting star in the loss. He went two for three with two walks, two RBIs and a run.
Jesus Valdez drove home Tyler Colvin in the bottom of the eleventh inning on a sac. fly to win it for the Cubs in eleven innings. The finals was 7-6 and Chris Amador played a big role in the win. He went two for five but both hits were solo homeruns. Colvin finished with a nice game and he went three for six with two doubles and two runs.
Rocky Roquet picked up the win and he improved to 1-0 on the season. He threw both of the extra frames and he held the Jays scoreless in both.
Scott Taylor dropped to 3-6 on the season with a tough start in a beatdown by Dunedin. Taylor gave up six runs and he didn’t even last through the second inning and when the dust settled, the Blue Jays had put twenty runs on the board in a 20-5 loss.
Alberto Garcia had a nice day at the plate. He had just one hit but it was a two run homer and he also scored two runs.
Daytona beat Dunedin 9-5 and Matt Matulia led the way for the Cubs at the plate. He went three for four with an RBI and two runs. Alan Rick hit a solo homerun and Brian Dopirak went three for three with a double and an RBI.
Jon Mueller improved to 5-1 with some solid relief. He gave up one run on two hits with a strikeout in 2 1/3 innings.
Jeff Samardzija was roughed up for the second time in his last three starts as Brevard County hitters took it to him in a 13-4 loss. He dropped to 0-5 on the season and he gave up eight runs on ten hits and one walk with one strikeout in five innings.
Brian Dopirak provided most of the offense in the loss. He homered and drove in three of the four runs.
