Scott Moore Leads Iowa In Win Over Nashville

by @ 11:19 pm. Filed under J.R. Mathes, Rocky Cherry, Micah Hoffpauir, Scott Moore, Iowa Cubs - June 2007

Iowa doubled up Nashville 4-2 and it was Scott Moore who had a hand in most of that offense.  He went two for three with a walk, a homerun, two RBIs and two runs.  The only other player with a hit was Micah Hoffpauir.

J.R. Mathes gave up two runs in 6 1/3 innings but he didn’t pick up the win.  That went to Rocky Cherry as he got two batters out and he was in the right place at the right time.  He improved to 2-0 on the season (despite having a 7.33 ERA).

J.R. Mathes Pitches Iowa to Win Over Over Portland

by @ 11:52 pm. Filed under J.R. Mathes, Felix Pie, Iowa Cubs - May 2007

J.R. Mathes improved to 5-3 on the season with a nice start in the Cubs 4-1 win over Portland.  He gave up just one run on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in six innings of work.  Mathes has been up and down all season and this was probably his best start since he threw five shutout innings back on May 2nd.

Felix Pie once again got it done at the plate.  He went two for five with two RBIs and a run and he’s now hitting .397 on the season.  I have a feeling he won’t qualify for the batting title though because I see the Cubs making a move at the deadline and bringing Pie up for good.

by @ 3:26 pm. Filed under J.R. Mathes, Felix Pie, Koyie Hill, Iowa Cubs - May 2007

Iowa got plenty of offense in their 17-7 win over the River Cats and Felix Pie and Koyie Hill led the way in a game where the Cubs had plenty of hitting stars.  Pie went three for six with a triple, four RBIs and two runs while Koyie Hill went two for four with a homerun, four RBIs and two runs.

J.R. Mathes didn’t have his best start but it was more then enough for the win.  He gave up six runs on nine hits and three walks with four strikeouts in six innings of work and the win pushed his record to 4-2 on the season.

Scott Moore’s Grand Slam the Difference in Iowa Win

by @ 7:51 pm. Filed under Iowa Cubs - April 2007, J.R. Mathes, Micah Hoffpauir, Scott Moore

Iowa scored six runs in the first inning.  Unfortunately, they didn’t score the rest of the game and the Isotopes scored five runs in the six.  That’s all they’d get though and the final was 6-5 Cubs.

Scott Moore had the big hit of the game and his grand slam capped off the six run first inning.  Micah Hoffpauir boosted his batting average to .414 with another two hits.  He went two for three with a run and an RBI.

J.R. Mathes picked up the win and he gave up five unearned runs in six innings.  The win boosted his record to 2-1.

Felix Pie Gets Two More Hits in Iowa Win

by @ 11:21 pm. Filed under Iowa Cubs - April 2007, J.R. Mathes, Felix Pie, Mike Fontenot

Felix Pie raised his batting average to .438 with another two hits.  He drove in a run and he now has fourteen hits and fifteen runs in ten games.  With the Chicago Cubs struggling like they have, you wonder how long they’re going to keep this kid down.  Mike Fontenot also had a nice game and he went two for four with a double and a run in the 3-2 win.

J.R. Mathes picked up the win with six solid innings.  He gave up two runs on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

J.R. Mathes Hit Hard in Iowa Loss

by @ 11:01 pm. Filed under Iowa Cubs - April 2007, J.R. Mathes, Fedrico Baez, Felix Pie, Buck Coats

The Iowa Cubs were blown out in their season debut yesterday.  J.R. Mathes was really hit hard by Round Rock and he was tagged for five runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts in four innings of work.  Fedrico Baez had a nice relief appearance though.  He held Round Rock to a single hit with two strikeouts in two innings.

The offense managed just two runs and Felix Pie led the way. He singled twice while Buck Coats singled, drew two walks and scored a run.  He even gunned down a base runner at third base to help out on defense.
