Iowa fell a run short in their 5-4 loss to Memphis in what turned out to be their fourth consecutive loss. Ronny Cedeno drove in three of the four Iowa runs despite not getting a single hit while Micah Hoffpauir went three for four with a run.
Les Walrond fell to 7-3 on the season with a mediocre start. He gave up four runs on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts in seven innings. Three of the six hits went over the fence and that’s what really cost the Cubs.
Les Walrond didn’t have his best start of the season but he picked up the win none the less and improved to 6-2 on the season. He gave up four runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Geovany Soto went two for three with a double, a homerun, two RBIs and a run. Mike Fontenot went two for five with an RBI and two runs.
Les Walrond gave up four runs on eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts in six innings of work. Fortunately for him, the pen and the hitters really picked him up and he walked away without a decision. Jim Henderson picked up the win and he improved to 2-0 with a shutout inning of relief.
Mike Fontenot doubled twice and scored two runs in the 5-4 win. Scott Moore went one for two with a solo homerun and two runs scored.
Les Walrond got it done on the mound in Iowa’s 8-1 win over Oklahoma. He gave up one run on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts in seven innings of work and the win improved his record to 5-2 on the season.
Felix Pie had a big day at the plate. He went two for five with a double and he drove in four runs.
Micah Hoffpauir drove in yet another run with a sac. fly in the eighth inning and that proved to be the game winner in the Cubs 7-6 win over Round Rock. Eric Patterson also had a great day at the plate. He went three for five with a homerun and three RBIs.
Les Walrond was hit hard in the win and he gave up six runs in five innings. Rocky Cherry picked up the win with two shutout relief innings.
Iowa scored two runs in the ninth inning to send the game into extra frames and then Mike Kinkade hit a huge two run walk off homer in the tenth to win for the Cubs. Kinkade finished the game three for five and he scored three runs in the 6-4 win.
Les Walrond had a tough start but the late inning heroics bailed him out. He gave up eight hits and he walked seven in six innings. Clay Rapada picked up the win with two shutout innings of relief.
Iowa never got their bats going and all they picked up were two singles. Mike Fontenot drove in the only run and Buck Coats was the only Cub to reach base twice with two walks.
Les Walrond took the loss with a tough outing. He gave up four runs on nine hits and a walk with three strikeouts in six innings.
Les Walrond had a very nice start in Iowa’s 8-0 win over Alburquerque. He gave up just four runs and he struck out four in six innings and the win improved his record to 2-0.
Mike Fontenot had a very solid day at the plate. He went three for five with two doubles and three RBIs. Angel Pagan finished with three hits, three runs and an RBI.
Les Walrond threw a very nice game for Iowa yesterday. He gave up just one run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in six innings of work.
Micah Hoffpauir had a nice day at the plate. He went two for three with a run and an RBI. He’s now hitting .469 on the season. Almost as good is Felix Pie who went one for two with two walks, a run and an RBI. He’s hitting .444 on the year.
