Tim Layden gave up an eleventh inning run that cost Daytona in their 7-6 loss to Tampa. The loss drops him to 1-2 on the season although he had help because Jeff Samardzija wasn’t all that great in his start. He gave up five runs in just five innings and his ERA is still north of 5.00 this year and he has yet to pick up his first win.
Brian Dopirak was the hitting star in the loss. He went three for five with a double, a homerun, two RBIs and a run.
Nate Spears singled home Mark Reed in the bottom of the tenth inning to win in the Cubs 2-1 win over Clearwater. The only other Cubs run came on a solo homerun by Tyler Colvin.
Tim Layden picked up the win. He gave up a hit and struck out one in two shutout innings.
Justin Berg was knocked around for ten runs (six earned) on six hits and four walks in just one inning in a 16-7 beatdown at the hands of Mobile. Tim Layden was also hit hard and he gave up five runs (two earned) on five hits in two innings. The four errors by the Smokies didn’t help things but this was an ugly game all the way around.
Jacob Fox was the hitting star in the game. He went two for five with a three run homer. Gary Cates also went yard with a two run shot.
