Daytona shut out the Flying Tigers 4-0 and it was Mitch Atkins who got it done on the mound. He gave up four hits and a walk with eight strikeouts in seven shutout innings and the win pushed his record to 7-6 on the season.
Yusuf Carter was the hitting star. He went two for four with a homerun and two RBIs.
Daytona scored a grand total of two runs in a doubleheader against Palm Beach and as expected, they lost them both. The first game was actually close because Mitch Atkins threw a solid game. He gave up two runs on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts in seven innings. Yusuf Carter had the only extra base hit for the Cubs with a double in the 2-1 loss.
Game two was a 6-1 loss. Darin Downs was shelled for three runs in two innings and he dropped to 2-2 on the season. Brian Dopirak drew two walks and he scored the only run of the game for the Cubs.
Brad Clipp threw four solid innings of relief in the Chiefs 3-2 win over Clinton. He gave up just one run on three hits and he struck out six and he improved to 1-0 on the season.
Jonathan Mota was the hitting star. He went four for five with two doubles and an RBI. Yusuf Carter hit a solo homerun and he scored a run in the win.
Robert Hernandez improved to 2-1 on the seasone with a nice start in the Chief’s 4-2 win over Clinton. He gave up one run on three hits with five strikeouts in five solid innings.
Russell Canzier went two for four with a double and an RBI. Yusuf Carter hit a solo homerun.
Jose Pina dropped to 1-5 on the season in the Chiefs’ 5-3 loss to Cedar Rapids. He gave up four runs on eight hits and a walk with eight strikeouts in six innings.
Matt Camp went three for five with a run. Yusuf Carter went one for five with two RBIs and a run.
The Chiefs swept Wisconsin and held the opposition to just one run between the two wins. In the first game, Jacob Renshaw threw five shutout innings and he improved to 4-2 on the season. James Adduci went two for three and he drove in two of the seven runs in the 7-0 win.
In the second game, the Chiefs won 4-1 behind a nice outing by Marco Carrillo. He threw five shutout innings as well and he improved to 1-1 on the season. Yusuf Carter doubled, scored a run and he drove in two in the win.
Peoria lost to Wisconsin 3-2 in a pretty good pitching matchup. Alessandro Maestri gave up just two runs on five hits with five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings and the loss drops him to 3-2 on the season.
Russell Canzier singled twice and he drove in a run. Yusuf Carter went two for four with a run.
Yusuf Carter’s two run homer played a big part in the Chiefs 7-5 win over the Lugnuts. James Adduci also had a nice game. He went three for four and he scored two runs.
Jose Pina wasn’t great, but he picked up his first win of the season. He gave up three runs on seven hits and one walk with one strikeout.
Jayson Ruhlman three shutout innings in relief to pick up the win for the Chiefs. He gave up just one hits and he and two other relievers combined to shutout Beloit over the final five frames.
Yusuf Carter had the big hit of the game. His two run homer was the difference maker in the 3-1 win. He also scored the other and finished two for four.
The Chiefs lost in a blowout to the White Caps 11-3. Jose Pina was hit hard and he gave up seven runs on eight hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings. The loss drops Pina to 0-2 on the season.
Yusuf Carter was the hitting star. He went two for three with a double and he scored one of the three Chief’s runs.
Jose Ceda got it done in grand fashion today as he held the Loons to just two hits with five strikeouts in six innings of work. Rocky Roquet struck out three in two shutout innings to close it out and he saved his third game of the season.
Wellington Castillo had a big day at the plate in the 3-0 win. He went two for four with a solo homerun and two RBIs. Yusuf Carter drove in the other run on a solo shot.
The Chiefs won their fourth straight game with two wins over the Loons. The first game was a solid pitchers duel with Jose Pina and Alessandro Maestri combining to beat the Loons. Pina gave up a single run on six hits in 4 2/3 and Maestri picked up the win with 2 1/3 innings of one hit ball. Matthew Canepa was the hitting star. He went two for three with a run.
In game two, Rafael Dolis got it done on the mound. He gave up a run on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts in five innings. DJ Lewis had two hits and two runs while Yusuf Carter and Blake Lalli each had two hits, a run and an RBI.
After starting 3-0, Peoria picked up two quick losses in their double header with Quad Cities. In the first game, they were shut out on just one hit and Alberto Alburquerque was roughed up for three runs in just three innings.
In the second game, the pitching was a touch better and Peoria scored a run but it wasn’t enough in the 2-1 loss. Joshua Lansford doubled twice and Yusuf Carter went two for three with a double and a run. William Muldowney took the loss despite throwing a complete game (just six innings). He gave up two runs on five hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.
The Chiefs jumped all over Wisconsin in their season opener with seven runs in the top of the first inning. Dylan Johnston singled twice, scored two runs and had one RBI while Yusuf Carter singled twice and scored two runs. Russell Canzler had two walks and two runs and all nine of the Chiefs hits were singles.
William Muldowney didn’t have all that great of a start but he picked up the win because of all the run support. He gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits but he struck out nine in five innings of work.
